Overview
In order for any star tracker to work the way it's designed, polar alignment has to be done in the first place. It is the act of aligning the rotation axis of a star tracker in parallel with Earth's self-spin axis. How do you know when your Move Shoot Move Star Tracker's rotation axis is aligned? Well, the Polar Scope we have here does just that!
Option 1: Polar Scope A Package For NOMAD
This polar scope Kit is for the NOMAD tracker, it includes:
- Polar Scope A
- Polar Scope Mount for NOMAD
- Fluorescent illuminator (looking like a white tube)
Note: This polar scope is the newest polar scope which can work in both hemispheres, the inner reticle is for the users in the Northern hemisphere and the outer icon is Octans which is for the users in the Southern hemisphere.

How to use Fluorescent illuminator?
Please use your headlamp or phone light to shine the light first, the paper inside will absorb the light and then glow in the dark. If you want to test it before going out, please test it in a dark room.

Option 2: Polar Scope Mount for NOMAD
If you are an MSM user wanting to upgrade your tracker to NOMA and you are wondering, will my polar scope work on NOMAD? Yes, your polar scope can work on NOMAD by this polar scope mount.
Option 3: Polar Scope Fluorescent Illuminator
The white tube-shaped light is the fluorescent light for the polar scope, attach it to the end of the polar scope. Shine it with a light from a phone or headlamp or others for one minute, then this light will glow in the dark.

How to Use the Illuminator:

Install the batteries:

Unscrew the illuminator body.

Insert two LR754 cell batteries into the battery compartment.

Screw the illuminator body back together to secure the batteries.

Attach to the polar scope: Screw the illuminator into the threaded hole on Polar Scope A.

Turn on the illuminator: Rotate the top knob to the right to activate the red light.

Align and Fine-Tune: You are ready to do the polar alignment now. During alignment, you can adjust the red light brightness by turning the knob left or right as needed.

I upgraded from the original MSM star tracker to the newer Nomad unit. While I really liked the original, the Nomad represents great improvements. It is more compact, sturdier, and easier to use. I have had great success with both units, but I really love the new Nomad and the upgraded accessories that come with it.
It took a few nights of unanticipated cloud cover for me to fully engage with my new MSM Polar Scope. After 2 cloudless nights of shooting in S. Texas, I can say that I’m delighted with the results.
Using the polar scope with the rotator isn’t the easiest way to polar align. The glow in the dark paper in the scope just doesn’t cut it. Enter the screw on red light. Suddenly, seeing the reticle is no longer an issue. Alignment is easily done in a couple minutes. Highly recommended accessory!
The Polar Scope is a great add-on to the smartphone solution (I live in Switzerland where laser are banned, so no other option than using the smartphone Apps) for increased accuracy, especially with longer lenses. Highly recommended!
I am very happy with Nomad, managed really good tracking with only laser to align with Polaris for capturing Andromeda at 210mm. Can't wait to see how it fares with summer milky way 🥰
