Description
The MSM Wedge is designed for precise polar alignment, similar to a ballhead but with finer adjustment capabilities. It features four knobs and one handle, for multi-directional adjustments, allowing you to set your tracker or camera at various angles. On top of the Quick-Release Plate has a standard 1/4"-20 threaded screw so that you can attach anything with a 1/4"-20 threaded screw upon it.
-
Knob A Lock or Unlock the Quick-Release Plate on the top
-
Knob B & Handle:
-
Knob B controls the altitude adjustment.
-
The handle locks and unlocks the altitude adjustment when turned in the direction of Knob B or the opposite direction, respectively. Simply pull the handle out to adjust its direction and this action will not affect the locked or unlocked status.
-
-
Knob C & Knob D adjust the azimuth for precise left and right movements in tiny increments.
The wedge can securely mount the Nomad Star Tracker without more tools. Made entirely of black CNC-milled aluminum alloy, it ensures maximum stability and durability.
Setting up the Wedge
1. Mount the Wedge on the Tripod:
2. Attach the Quick-Release Plate:
3. Secure the Rig:
4. Adjust the Wedge:
Tilting:
- Loosen the handle (turn in the opposite direction of Knob B) to unlock altitude adjustment.
- Tilt the wedge by rotating Knob B, then lock it by turning the handle towards Knob B.
- Tip: Slight tilting is possible even when the handle is locked, the main purpose of this handle is to stabilize the whole wedge but not totally lock it.
Panning
- Use Knob C and Knob D to adjust the azimuth.
- To pan the wedge left or right, turn both knobs towards you or outwards simultaneously, which means you need to rotate both screws in the same direction to pan the wedge
- Tip: Continue turning the knobs until one reaches its limit; this will allow further panning.
- To lock the wedge in place, turn both knobs at the same time towards the center.
- To unlock, turn both knobs simultaneously outwards.

I give it three stars and thats beacuse of that i have to put it on the v-plate first, not directly to my tripod, just to get it up to the latitude where i live. 67 degrees. The wedge just go to 60 degrees and thats a downer.
Wedge for precise polar alignment
Simple, affordable and practical! I am a travel photographer and numerous other star trackers are large and difficult to travel with. This is ideal, doesn't take up much space, weight much and best of all - it's just simple to use!
I have been looking for something for my lightweight travel set up for sometime now, that is compact, allows precise alignment and is of course, lightweight.
I have used the AW Z bracket before, but found this to be difficult to align accurately enough when making small adjustments, and I eventually thought of using the wedge instead.
The wedge is a cost effective option and ticks all the boxes I need, so I thought it was worth taking a chance on.
I have only used the wedge once since it's arrival (UK Weather) but it performed brilliantly and seems to be the answer to my problem.
Well made, lightweight, compact, accurate and simple to use, and a real cost effective solution for my trip to Tenerife next summer.
I purchased a MSM Nomad, Wedge and Alyn Wallace V Plate from MSM. Delivery was quick with good tracking. On arrival I found one of the azimuth screws was slightly bent. Contacted MSM who were very responsive, identified what type of screw and sent two replacements which arrived shortly thereafter.
So easy to use. Lite weight. Very affordable.
Great job MSM. You guys rock.

La cuña va perfecta. Solo os sugiero un tope , por ejemplo un tornillo para que el Nomad no resbale y se caiga por no haber apretado bien el arca swiss . Eso la haría perfecta. Saludos
I love my MSM rotator, but there were some limitations that I would have like addressed. The NOMAD addresses all of these issues. The tracker is so much sturdier with its updated locking gear system as well as the new permanent mount. You won’t find a better tracker for the money.
This solidly built tracker has simple steps for setup and tracks the sky with ease. Used it with a 90mm lens on my mirror-less camera.
